Officer Training

Posted by on Sep 16, 2015 in Events | Comments Off on Officer Training

Over the course of the past few months, I have had the privilege of working with five men from our congregation who have been nominated for church office. These five men–Marc Houghton, Joe Saffa, Tim Heger, Peter Bringe, and Cody Winton–have been busily studying the Westminster Confession of Faith and the OPC’s Book of Church Order. Once we are done with our training classes, our borrowed elder, Mr. Bruce Stahl, and myself will closely examine them and certify their eligibility as candidates for office. Then we’ll hold...

Intern Reunion

When each one of our interns went through our pastoral intern program, they were single men, solely focused on their studies, and seeking the Lord’s will as to future ministry opportunities. Now, look what has happened—each one has been blessed with a wife! We held a glorious reunion of the CFC interns in May and shared a special meal together. This is a picture from the back deck of our home. Where are the interns now? Cody and Sarah Winton live in O’Fallon, MO and are members at Covenant Family Church where Cody provides...

Received Into the OPC

This past Sunday evening, May 3, we were formally received into the Midwest Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. I was installed as the pastor of the church, and several members of the Midwest Presbytery and two nearby OPC congregations (Christ OPC in St. Charles, MO and Gateway OPC in Town and Country, MO) joined us for the special service and celebration. This service was the culmination of a year-long odyssey of transferring from one denomination to another. God has cared for us, protected us, and shepherded us through the...

Report on the Men’s Advance (2015)

Posted by on Apr 4, 2015 in Men's Advance | Comments Off on Report on the Men’s Advance (2015)

Attendance and Theme:  This was a wonderful year for the Men’s Advance (Feb. 27-28), with very good dynamics between the two speakers—Dr. Derek Carlsen and Dr. Marcus Serven—and an attentive group of participants! In terms of the overall attendance, this was a smaller year with just 82 men and boys registering for the Advance, and due to snowy weather only 75 people at the closing concert. The record attendance occurred in 2013—with 150 men and boys at the Men’s Advance and 250 at the concert. Nevertheless, God blessed our efforts this year...

Into the OPC…

Posted by on Mar 24, 2015 in News | Comments Off on Into the OPC…

This past Friday, March 20, 2015, we were received as a congregation into the Midwest Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. We are joining with the thirty-six OPC congregations that are scattered throughout Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The installation service for our church has yet to be scheduled, but we are already incorporating many of the distinctive beliefs and practices of this fine denomination into the life of our congregation. In particular, we are working toward the establishment of local church...

Theme for the Men’s Advance

“Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God.” Psalm 146:3-5 As the years go by it seems to me that this statement from Psalm 146 becomes more prominent in my own mind. The fundamental lesson of human history is that the kingdoms of men rise up, and then over time the kingdoms of men fall down. But, in contrast to that the kingdom of our God...
