Will Christ’s Church Prevail?

Posted by on Apr 9, 2014 in Theology | Comments Off on Will Christ’s Church Prevail?

Christians sometimes wonder, “Will the church of Jesus Christ be able to survive the relentless onslaught of those who oppose it during this current age?” Here is a confidence-building quote from John Calvin (1509-1564) which takes into account the promises of God that are found in the Bible. Based on the eternal kingship of Jesus Christ, Calvin forcefully argues, Therefore, whenever we hear of Christ as armed with eternal power, let us remember that the perpetuity of the church is secure in this protection. Hence, amid the violent agitation...

Report on the 2014 Men’s Advance

Posted by on Mar 28, 2014 in Men's Advance | Comments Off on Report on the 2014 Men’s Advance

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9 On February 28th, a little over 100 men and boys gathered to be reminded of God’s call to manly courage. Not for proud boasting did they come; rather, they came to be reminded of the roots of Christian courage: humility and faith. We are thankful for the time of exhortation and examination and pray that God would bring fruit from this year’s event. Our Theme: Our theme was “Manly Courage,” and Pastors Marcus...

Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 Please join us for the Men’s Advance on Feb. 28—Mar. 1, 2014 with Scott Brown and Marcus Serven speaking on the theme of “Manly Courage.” What is it that will help a Christian man to uphold his faith and fulfill his responsibilities when it is unpopular to be identified as a Christian? In dark and dangerous times we believe that God will faithfully give us “Manly Courage” when we most need it....

The Compelling Testimony of the Shepherds

Posted by on Dec 24, 2013 in Devotional | Comments Off on The Compelling Testimony of the Shepherds

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger’.”  Luke 2:10-12 (ESV) What are we to think of the shepherds who heard the startling words of the angel on that cold night near Bethlehem? If they had no prior expectation of a coming Messiah, then it seems odd that they would have...

Who Owns the World?

Posted by on Jul 30, 2013 in Civic, Rev. Serven | Comments Off on Who Owns the World?

It is good for Christians to recall that God actually owns the world. This fact never changes throughout earth history, and even though the evil one has some temporary influence over the events of men the sovereign plan of God always prevails (Proverbs 16:4; Romans 8:28). For example, King David tells us in the Psalms: “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” Psalm 24:1-2 Also, two additional Psalms written by others...

This year’s Men’s Advance was, by far, our largest conference ever! By God’s grace we hosted 150 men and boys at the Advance with over 250 attendees for the free family concert on Saturday evening. Our Theme: This year our emphasis was on “Intentional Discipleship” and Pastor Kevin Swanson and Dr. Marcus Serven brought forth five carefully-crafted messages on that topic. Plus, we enjoyed hearing from a panel of four fathers and sons who shared their successes and failures on the topic of family discipleship. Our specific goal was to help...

Speaker Panel

Posted by on Mar 1, 2013 in Men's Advance | Comments Off on Speaker Panel

A brand new feature about the 2013 Men’s Advance was the inclusion of a special panel, which was made up of several fathers and sons.  The desire was that these older and experienced fathers would be able to encourage and pass on some advice to the fathers in the audience, while the sons could also share a word to the young men in attendance. The panel speakers this year were: Mr. Nathan Clark George and his son Elliot George Mr. Gary Huffman and his sons John and Stephen Huffman Mr. Mark Thomas and his sons Michael, Matthew, Micaiah,...
