Text: Micah 5:1-9
We return to our study of the Prophet Micah and his message about the coming kingdom of our Lord. In chapter 4 we noted Micah’s vision of the Lord’s House, the Lord’s People, and the Lord’s Victory. We also discussed how this kingdom actually began with the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus (cf. Mk 1:14-15; Gal. 4:4-5). And even though it is a kingdom that is already here, it is also one that is not yet fulfilled. In other words, it is already, but not yet.
Thus, the kingdom of Jesus Christ will be consummated when we sit and celebrate the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (cf. Matt. 22:2; Rev. 19:1-10). We should also observe that as history slowly unfolds our Lord brings about multiple fulfillments of his prophetic writings, until all is completely fulfilled on the Last Day. This is the exciting vision of Micah 4-5.
