Marcus-J.-Serven-252x183This past Friday, March 20, 2015, we were received as a congregation into the Midwest Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. We are joining with the thirty-six OPC congregations that are scattered throughout Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The installation service for our church has yet to be scheduled, but we are already incorporating many of the distinctive beliefs and practices of this fine denomination into the life of our congregation. In particular, we are working toward the establishment of local church government in our church with the ordination of Ruling Elders and Deacons over the remainder of this year.

The Orthodox Presbyterian Church is a confessional denomination started in 1936. It was founded upon a thorough-going commitment to the teachings of the Bible and it steadfastly holds to the doctrines and practices of the Protestant Reformation. The beliefs of the church are summarized in the historic and well-regarded Westminster Confession of Faith and its catechisms. Moreover, there is a significant emphasis on sending out foreign missionaries, establishing new churches throughout North America, and on promoting Christian education in both the church and home.

We rejoice at God’s goodness in allowing us to become a part of this Reformed denomination and we are excited about contributing to its many ministries as well as receiving from its many bounties.
